Tempe (Hilge) Bakery - Hackett House
94 W 4th St
Tempe, AZ 85281
Details
Original Use: Bakery/Residence | Current Use: Retail and Event Space
The Hackett House is home to many 'firsts' in Tempe. It was among the first fired brick buildings built in Arizona, as well as the first bakery to service Tempe. The original building is associated with Panel Brick Commercial style architecture - of which many of the original elements remain.
There have been two prominent families that have resided in The Hackett House. The first was the Hilge family who ran the Hilge bakery. The second was the Craig's who converted the bakery into a residence. The Craig daughter married Roy Hackett, who the house is currently named after.
The Hackett House was purchased by the City of Tempe in 1974.
Hackett House is currently the home to Tempe Sister Cities Organization gift boutique and event hall.
